Commodities closely watched this week

Closely watched this week has been commodieites markets. BHP and Rio Tinto both published annual results last week and despite the reduction in profits last year both companies are set to monopolise on the setting of Iorn Ore prices. In an interview recently Marius Kloppers stated that he believed we would see a substantial increase in Ore prices in the next round of price benchmark setting. His reasoning behind this was that the last prices were set amidst the chaos of the economic crises. The current spot prices are double that of the benchmark price now.  The spot price is usually the indicator of what the new benchmark price is going to be.

The defence technologies supplier VT group could be one to watch over the next few weeks the share price jumped form 491p to 581p on Monday after a hostile takeover bid from Babcock was squashed by the group. There is talk today that the american giant Lockheed Martin may put up a bid but nothing has been confirmed. From what i can see the combining VT's Royal Air Force contracts and Babcock's Royal Navy interests would be a good match. Vt group seems in a good position as a stand alone company at the moment and recently expressed interest in Mouchel Group. Now Buying VT could be a good move as It is most likely that the company will be bought out before the end of the year. The new company will also look very attractive having a massive market stake in defence technology.
